Gayview Park toilet block
This project forms part of Kirby Architects’ ongoing partnership with Wodonga City Council to improve community facilities across the region.
The brief was to revitalise an existing public toilet block, working within the constraints of the existing layout while improving its functionality, accessibility and overall user experience for the local community. Rather than treating the amenities as purely functional spaces, the design introduces colour, texture and considered finishes to bring character and life to the building, while ensuring the materials remain durable, practical and easy to maintain.
Accessible fittings were integrated within the existing footprint to achieve compliance without compromising the overall design, while improvements to vandal resistance and provisions for future upgrades ensure the facility can continue to serve the community for years to come.
Sustainability and resourcefulness informed the approach, with opportunities identified to reuse materials wherever possible. In this project, unused timber battens from a previous Kirby Architects project within Wodonga were repurposed creating a element of design, sustainable and cost-effective solution for the client. The result is a welcoming, safe and resilient public facility that demonstrates how intentful design can add value and personality to functional of community spaces.
