Barwon Health University Hospital Youang Surgery Centre, Stage 2 Works, Operating Theatre Reactivation
The Youang Surgery Centre has been expanded to include four new operating theatres. The expansion responds to significantly increased demand in the growing Barwon region since the Covid-19 pandemic.
The building works, including upgrades to operating theatres and fire services, are happening in stages. The project involved refurbishing theatres and reconfiguring space for first and second stage recovery, reception, change rooms, staff rooms, equipment stores, offices and an education space.
Ultimately, in the event of another pandemic, the building will be able to function as a fully separate facility, and act as a quarantine building if needed.

“Recommissioning the building as the Youang Surgery Centre means we now have extra dedicated surgical and medical beds and theatres, which has a flow-on effect to create more capacity throughout the whole hospital. ”
