Hawthorn Malvern Hockey Centre Redevelopment
Home to the Hawthorn and Toorak East Malvern Hockey Clubs, the project is a major redevelopment with new clubrooms, kiosk, viewing decks, multipurpose rooms and upgrades gender neutral amenities to contemporary standards including disability access.
The redevelopment benefits the two clubs’ 1150 members, and metropolitan Melbourne hockey teams and school students who use the centre. The experience of every club visitor is enhanced through community focused features, like the new BBQ social area and kitchen catering facility in a light airy building that takes advantage of views and orientation. Amenities are gender-neutral to cater for men’s and women’s teams at any time, with direct access from outside, significantly improving access and safety for players, officials and spectators. Four change rooms were refurbished, also on a gender-neutral basis.
Kirby Roper lead the project providing full architectural services from feasibility through to completion, leading subconsultants. Kirby led an extensive stakeholder engagement process with Council, committee members and diverse user groups.
